Commercial Upholstery Services
When most folks think of commercial upholstery they think of restaurant booths and waiting room chairs, but there's a lot more to it. I would like to share some of those services with you so you will think of us next time someone says, We need new..."
Among some of the most popular commercial upholstery options is certainly new or refurbished seating. When you have sturdy hardwood frames that have worn or dated covering re-upholstery is certainly your best choice. Today's furniture market produces an inexpensive product at high volume. It is NOT made to last and it won't. Very seldom is it cost effective to recover furniture that is less that ten years old and already worn out. If you bought it a Value City it will NOT be cheaper to re-upholster it! If that's all the quality you require go buy another one. I recover seating that has oak frames and ha s already lasted forty or fifty years or more! You simply cannot get the same quality in new mass produced seating.
Now that we've cleared that up let's talk about some other things. Curtains and drapes can be bought at your local huge discount store, but once again if you're shopping for price you're NOT getting quality. You're not getting stain resistance, you're not getting heat and cold control and you're not getting a product with a five to ten year warranty! I guarantee it.
We make lined and interlined drapery designed to block out and retain the heat and cold. They also act as light blocking and extreme privacy control. Many can be made to fit electric rods or traverse rods for ease of opening and closing. You have your choice of hardware and hangings options be it rod pockets, wooden rings or traditional drapery hooks.
We have access to thousands of fabrics! Most box stores carry a couple of dozen styles and colors. We can give you almost limitless possibilities. Can your discount store exactly match your drapes to your furniture or throw pillows? We can. What about cornices? No box store that I know of can offer custom cornices. Suppose you just want to add some color, but not block out the light. I know, I know a valance. What if you want something less fluffy?
These days we live in a throw away world and while it might be cheaper initially it is not cost effective in the long run. It certainly is not environmentally friendly to keep filling up the dumps and oceans with cheap throw away goods made in another country. It's not good for the earth!
Commercial upholstery can include furniture, draperies, cornices, pillows, cushions, recovering of quality furniture frames, re-stuffing pillows and cushions and re-cutting and re-trimming existing furnishings and draperies.
Buy good furniture and soft furnishings that will last a lifetime. Change your accessories when you want to refresh your look. Save the environment. Save your money. Support small business.

Speaking of swings. Did you know you can have new cushions made for your old swing or glider? Any reputable upholstery shop can manufacture custom made cushions to suit your needs. I am going to tell you a few things that are important in the process so you will be an educated consumer!
The first thing to consider is NOT price. In our modern Wally World Ways we tend to look for the cheapest price, but that is not realistic for upholstery. The number one reason for this is that cheaper fabrics and notions will not last as long as quality goods. The simple numbers mean that saving fifty dollars now will cost you a lot more in the long run. Sounds cliche to say you get what you pay for, but in this case you really do. If you start out with cheap fabric it will not last long and you will need new cushions before you know it. Penny wise and pound foolish they call it. You will have more upfront costs for quality materials, but many will last the life of your furniture and in the end that will save you money. The extra money you save now will have to paid eventually anyway when you need your cushions made AGAIN, but you will also have the inconvenience of reupholstering.
The first things for you to think about are do you like the process of upholstery? Do you enjoy choosing fabrics? Does the idea of deciding on matching or contrasting piping really get your creative juices flowing? If so, then by all means go with a less expensive fabric and be good to your seamstress so he or she will have you back. LOL We love to make new things too so pay your upholsterer well and scrimp on the fabric if you already know you want to do it all again in a year or two. There is no rule saying everything has to last forever. Maybe you like to update everything every year. Go for it and have some fun! If decorating is just not your idea of a good time let your upholsterer know up front. An experienced sewist will be able to help you choose fabrics that fit your budget and match your decor. Making the whole process easy for you becomes part of the service. At A.R.M. Interiors we let our customers tell us what they need. Make sure you choose an upholsterer who suits your style!
If you never want to go through this again invest in the better materials and expect them to last the next five or ten years. No kidding! Many outdoor fabrics come with very long warranties these days some as much as ten or fifteen years. If you choose a fabric that is warrantied for ten years you can almost bet it's going to last ten to twelve years. Manufacturers are not in the business of giving away money. They already know their product will last for the warranted period. Take advantage of their expertise. An extra $100 now may buy you five more years of use and who wouldn't pay $20 a year for peace of mind?! Companies like Greenhouse Fabrics and Sunbrella have products to fit every budget.
Find an upholsterer you can trust and work with that person to fit your needs and your budget. Not everyone is out to squeeze you for every nickel and if you feel like someone is; walk away! Just say, "I think we are going to hold off for now. Thank you for your time." and walk out the door. You want a seamstress that understands your needs, whether it is a slim budget, an aversion to the process, long wearing choices, bright colors, the chance to upstage your neighbors ☺, whatever you feel you need.
So, remember price is not always the most important factor, but sometimes it is...lol.

Did you know that there are products and ideas that can both cool in summer and add warmth to your home in winter? It is really about heat transfer. If you can stop the heat from intruding in the summer and escaping in the winter you can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars off your heating and cooling bills. With any budget you can make some beautiful changes that will save you cash every day. Things like insulated window coverings, and exteriors awnings are two of the most noticeable. Awnings can be set to protect your home from the direct rays of the sun in summer and allow the sunlight to come in during the winter to help heat your home with FREE passive solar energy. Fabrics now come in as many colors and patterns as there are stars in the sky or so it seems. Awnings can also add a decorative element to your home. It's sort of curtains for the outside, if you will. With new marine grade nylon and synthetic thread, awnings can easily last your lifetime. If you get tired of looking at the same old style, the covers can be changed and the hardware reused saving you even more the second time around. What you probably don't realize is that you can have a beautiful custom made window awning for as little as $250. Like awnings insulated curtains help keep the sun out in the summer, but can be opened in the winter to let the sun help heat your home for FREEEEE! One simple act can also save you those hundreds of dollars you need for yourself. In summer close your insulated curtains during the day and in winter close them at night. That simple and you will save a lot of money. Now not to diss big box stores but I am talking about real lined and interlined custom draperies that blanket your windows. Not the cheap rubber lined production stuff you can get at your local big W. ARM Interiors has the skill and experience to measure and create custom insulated draperies for you. A third way insulated heavy drapes help is to close them during the day and then just look around for any source of light coming through gaps and cracks around windows, doors, dryer vents etc. Sealing those cracks will also save you a lot of money and some caulk and a caulk gun is about ten dollars at any hardware or box store. Here are some facts. Most of a home’s heat loss is through windows and doors. Most of a home’s passive heat gain is through windows and doors. It is warming up outside and many of you are pulling out your boats, antique cars and motorcycles and shining them up for a spin. Are you in need of some professional help with an upholstery problem or thinking of updating some things yourself? There are a few things to consider before you get started. I am going to help you organize your needs and plan your project with some important information. One of the first things to consider may be your budget. Is money a little tight for this project or is this going to be a dream project and money is no object? If you're like most people the answer lies somewhere in the middle. You want your job to turn out great, but you don't want to waste money either. That's where I come in. You're about to pick my professional brain without even trying! I must advise you not to skimp on fabric. Get the best you can afford and get plenty of it. Always factor in extra fabric for mistakes or unexpected parts. It is better you have a yard left over than try match fabric that has already been cut and delivered. If you aren't exactly sure go online and look for estimating calculators. If the fabric arrives and you still aren't sure make sure you do one piece at a time and keep all the parts of a section together. For example if you're doing a car do all the seats first, then start on the door panels. If you're doing a boat do all the cushions first and then start on the gunwales or back rests. That way your biggest pieces are done before you run out. As to quality, you cannot underestimate the value of a good quality four way stretch vinyl for upholstery. Get the best you can afford in a vinyl suited to your your project. Morbern and Spradling are some names that come to mind. Check out their own manufacturers website for detailed information on their products. Leathers also come in a variety of quality, colors and finishes. Make sure you know the properties of your leather before you order and measure thrice cut once. You cannot uncut a hide! If you hire a professional be reasonable. You cannot expect someone to calculate your order, order it for you, receive your order, validate that everything was delivered correctly and store it until the project begins and get nothing for their time and effort. Expect some mark up and don't expect it for the same price as cheap crap off the internet. If you want cheap internet goods don't expect a very good result. Cheap vinyl doesn't stretch, cheap leather doesn't last and I have actually had some customers bring hides that smelled like the dead animals they are. Do you want that smelled closed up in your car indefinitely? Nope! You're throwing good money after bad, as they say, when you have to pay a professional to remake those horrible smelly seats. You will NOT get a good result from cheap materials. Call ARM Interiors for more information on resources or upholsterers for your area. 681-242-3554
